How to play Texas Hold’em

Texas Hold’em gives every seated player two private cards and combines them with up to five community cards. The objective is to make the strongest five-card poker hand or win the pot when every opponent folds.

Virtual chips only: Neon Poker uses virtual chips only. Chips and in-game items have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn.

The four betting rounds

A hand starts before the flop after the small blind and big blind are posted. Players can fold, call or raise according to the current bet.

The flop reveals three community cards. The turn adds a fourth card and the river a fifth. A new betting round can take place after each reveal.

Making a five-card hand

At showdown, each remaining player forms the best possible five-card combination from seven available cards: two hole cards and five community cards. A player may use both, one or none of the private cards.

Hand categories run from high card through pair, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush and royal flush.

Position, blinds and legal actions

The dealer button moves around the table and determines action order. The two players to the left usually post the small and big blinds.

Neon Poker only enables actions that are legal for the current state. Bet and raise ranges are calculated by the server from the table rules, current bet and player stack.

Showdown and split pots

If two or more players have equally ranked hands, the eligible pot is split. Side pots are created when players commit different all-in amounts.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use both hole cards?

No. Texas Hold’em allows you to use two, one or zero hole cards when building the best five-card hand.

What happens when everyone folds?

The last player who has not folded wins the pot without a showdown.

What is an all-in?

An all-in commits the player’s remaining table stack. The player can only win the portion of each pot for which they are eligible.
